West Middlesex Golf Club was proud to host its Annual Scratch Open – The CW Roe Trophy at the weekend.
The Men’s Trophy consisted of 54 Holes, with top 21 and ties making the cut for the Sunday. It was a very tightly contested competition this year, with a score of 158 or better needed to make the cut for the Sunday, and three players finishing 54 holes on 214 strokes. The playoff was contested between Michael Okon of Mill Hill Golf Club, Paul Collington of The Gog Magog Golf Club and James Bailey of The Oaks Golf Club. The eventual winner was Michael Okon, who made a birdie on the 17th hole, the second of three playoff holes.
In the Ladies’ Trophy, another tightly contested competition concluded with three players finishing within three shots of one another. Skye Fontanelli came through strongly with a 75 on the Sunday to win by a shot.
West Middlesex’s Scratch Captain TJ Danee, who made the cut for the Sunday with an excellent 72 in round 1, had the following words to say about the day:
“Reflections on the Roe; great event, thoroughly enjoyable, well organised, greens beautifully presented, grateful to be able to play on such a magnificent course. Felt really emotional in Rd 3 standing on the 7th tee thinking this could be one of the last times to grace this view. ”
TJ, Mick McCormick and Tom MacCalman were the three West Middlesex members to make the cut for the Sunday, as well as former member Chris Woolsey who posted 76s in each of the three rounds.
